Orlando Collaborative Law Attorney

Helping You Understand Your Options

While most people are familiar with the traditional divorce litigation process involving lawyers, courtrooms and judges, many people seeking divorce do not realize they have alternative options. Collaborative law, also called collaborative divorce, is a form of alternative dispute resolution that is often a preferred method for settling various aspects of a divorce because it tends to be more cost-efficient and less stressful than litigation.

At CPLS, P.A., we strongly encourage our clients to consider collaborative law. While it may seem like a dispute over child custody or property division can't be resolved without a judge, it is important to keep an open mind and think about the big picture. How much will litigation cost? Do you really want to fight it out in court? How will this affect your children? By working together with your spouse and your individual attorneys, you may be able to come to an agreement that saves you time, money and emotional hardship.

What Is the Difference Between Collaborative Divorce and Mediation?

In collaborative divorce, both spouses have their attorneys present during the negotiation process, but there is no neutral third party like in mediation. The lawyers have collaborative law training which helps them guide their clients to a resolution that is positive and fair.

In collaborative divorce, there are no court dates or judges making final decisions. The spouses both agree to the final outcome.

If appropriate, the attorneys may call on additional resources such as mental health professionals and financial professionals to aid in reaching an amicable agreement.
